ABBISTAR is a life settlement provider working with policyholders and their advisors who want to understand what a policy may be worth, and with investors seeking an alternative asset. Choose the path that fits you.
Life settlements look different depending on which side of the policy you are on. Start with the one that describes you.
For Policyholders and Advisors
Find out what a life insurance policy may be worth and explore options other than surrendering it or letting it lapse. Agents and financial advisors are welcome to start a conversation on behalf of their clients. There is no obligation.
Life settlements are contract-based assets governed by state insurance law and are not tied to the stock market. ABBISTAR gives qualified investors access to this private, alternative asset class.

Life settlement investments carry risk. No returns are guaranteed.
Life insurance is usually seen as a benefit for loved ones after the policyholder is gone. Many people do not realize that certain policies can also have value in the secondary market during the policyholder's lifetime.
Circumstances change. Children grow up, a business is sold, health changes, or premiums that once felt manageable become a burden. When priorities shift, it is reasonable to ask whether an existing policy still serves its purpose.
Many policies end before a death benefit is ever paid, because they are surrendered for their cash value or allowed to lapse. For a qualifying policy, a settlement may offer another path, and for investors it is a way to access a contract-based asset class. ABBISTAR's role is to explain that market clearly, so every party can decide whether it is right for them.
Understand a policy's potential value
Learn what factors shape how a policy may be viewed in the secondary market, beyond its stated cash surrender value.
Explore alternatives to surrender or lapse
Before coverage is allowed to end, see whether a qualified settlement or another option could serve the policyholder better.
Make informed financial decisions
Weigh the trade-offs with clear information and time to consult family and advisors.
Solutions Built Around Every Situation.
Every policy and every situation is different. ABBISTAR reviews each policy on its own terms and explains which options may apply, along with what each involves.
01
Life and Viatical Settlements
A life settlement may allow a qualifying policyholder to sell an existing life insurance policy for a one-time cash payment. The proceeds can provide access to financial resources during your lifetime instead of only after it.
Policyholders consider a life settlement when coverage is no longer needed, premiums have become difficult to maintain, or funds would make a greater difference today. Some use the proceeds for retirement, care costs or other priorities.
The buyer becomes the owner and beneficiary of the policy and takes over future premium payments. A life settlement offer must be higher than the policy's cash surrender value, and what is offered depends on the policy, the insured's circumstances and market conditions.
A viatical settlement is the same kind of transaction for an insured person facing a serious, chronic or terminal illness. It provides funds during the policyholder's lifetime at a time when those resources can matter most, and we approach these conversations with care and discretion. Definitions and eligibility vary by state.
02
Policy Conversion
Many term life insurance policies include a conversion option that allows all or part of the coverage to be converted into permanent life insurance, subject to the insurer's terms and policy provisions. Reviewing conversion options can be part of a broader evaluation of what your policy can do for you.
Conversion rights usually have deadlines, such as a certain age or a number of years after the policy was issued. Many insurers allow conversion without a new medical exam, but premiums for permanent coverage are typically higher.
Because a term policy that can be converted may be viewed differently in the secondary market, it is worth knowing your conversion deadline before it passes.
Clarity at Every Step.
Our process is designed to be straightforward. Everyone involved knows what is being reviewed, why, and what comes next.
Eligibility, offers, required documents and timelines depend on each policy and your individual circumstances. Requesting a review does not obligate you to sell.
01
Start a Conversation
Connect with ABBISTAR by phone or through our consultation form to talk about your policy and general circumstances. A specialist can walk you through a brief questionnaire to see whether a review makes sense.
02
Policy Evaluation
We review relevant policy details. Where required, and only with your written authorization, additional underwriting information such as medical records is obtained to assess eligibility and potential value.
03
Review Your Options
If your policy qualifies, ABBISTAR may present a settlement offer for your consideration, along with an explanation of how the terms work.
04
Make an Informed Decision
Take time to review the proposed terms, ask questions, and speak with your family or advisors. The decision to proceed is entirely yours.

Every Policy Has a Story. Let's Understand It.
ABBISTAR reviews many kinds of life insurance, including term, whole, universal, indexed universal and variable policies. Here is a brief guide to how each one works.
Term Life Insurance
Term insurance provides coverage for a set period, such as 10, 20 or 30 years. It generally has no cash value, so when the term ends or premiums stop, the coverage ends.
Many term policies include a conversion privilege that allows the coverage to be changed to permanent insurance before a deadline. A convertible term policy may be relevant to a settlement review.

Whole Life Insurance
Whole life is permanent coverage designed to last for the insured's lifetime, as long as premiums are paid. Premiums are typically level, and the policy builds cash value according to its terms.
Some policies are eligible for dividends. Over time, the premiums or the policy's original purpose may no longer fit your plans, which is often when policyholders ask what their options are.

Universal Life Insurance
Universal life is permanent coverage with flexible premiums and, in many cases, an adjustable death benefit. Cash value grows based on interest credited by the insurer.
Because the cost of insurance tends to rise with age, some universal life policies become more expensive to keep in force later in life. Reviewing the policy's projections can help you see where it is heading.

Indexed Universal Life Insurance
Indexed universal life is permanent coverage with flexible premiums in which the cash value is credited interest linked to a market index, usually within a minimum floor and a maximum cap set by the insurer.
Credited interest depends on the index and the policy's caps and participation rates, and the cost of insurance still rises with age. Reviewing an in-force illustration can show whether the policy is on track.

Variable Life Insurance
Variable life is permanent coverage in which the cash value is invested in subaccounts chosen by the policyholder. Values can rise or fall with market performance.
Because the policy's cash value and, in some cases, its death benefit can change, it should be reviewed together with its prospectus and current statements.

Not every policy is eligible for a settlement. Suitability and eligibility depend on the policy's specific terms, the insured's circumstances and the requirements that apply in your state.

Your Questions, Thoughtfully Answered.
If your question is not covered here, our team is glad to talk it through with you.
A life settlement is the sale of an existing life insurance policy to a third party for a one-time cash payment. The buyer becomes the policy's owner and beneficiary and takes responsibility for future premiums. The payment is less than the death benefit and must be more than the policy's cash surrender value.
Both involve selling a policy. A viatical settlement is for an insured person who is chronically or terminally ill, often with a shorter life expectancy. A life settlement is typically for older policyholders who are not necessarily ill. The exact definitions and rules vary from state to state.
Many policyowners can, but not every policy qualifies. Eligibility depends on factors such as the type and size of the policy, how long it has been in force, the insured's age and health, and the laws of your state. A conversation with our team is the simplest way to find out whether a review makes sense.
The evaluation considers the death benefit, the premiums needed to keep the policy in force, the policy's type and provisions, the insured's age and health, and current market conditions. Together these determine whether an offer can be made and what it might be.
A member of our team will contact you to discuss your policy and goals. If a review is appropriate, we will ask for policy information and, with your written authorization, request records needed for underwriting. If the policy qualifies, you may receive an offer to consider. You are under no obligation to accept.
A life settlement offer must be more than the policy's cash surrender value. If a policy cannot meet that, a settlement is not available for it. That is why it helps to compare all of your options, including keeping the policy, before deciding.
Settlement proceeds may have tax consequences and may affect eligibility for certain public assistance programs. We recommend speaking with a tax or legal advisor about your situation.
Universal, indexed universal, whole, variable and convertible term policies may all be considered, as well as some group policies that can be converted to individual coverage. Each is reviewed individually, and eligibility is never automatic.
Your information is used to evaluate your policy and respond to your inquiry, and it is treated as confidential. Medical records are requested only when needed for underwriting and only with your written authorization. Please do not include medical details in the website inquiry form.
Your Goals Matter. Let's Explore What's Possible.
Whether you hold a life insurance policy or are exploring life settlements as an investor, ABBISTAR is here to help you begin the conversation.
